Humanities, University of Basra - The phenomenon of confirmation bias among university students, Zainab Jamil Abdul-Jalil Shannan
The thesis dealt with ... (The student who is dominated by assertive biases is often a one-sided view, that is, he looks at things from one side, which is the aspect that is consistent with his culture and intellectual formation, unaware of the multiplicity of alternatives and the diversity of ideas to reach a solution to many of the problems and disturbances caused by that view. The unilateralism of matters that hinders reaching a state of consensus and continuing to adopt unreliable beliefs that are consistent with his previous beliefs and as a result of the researcher's presence in the student community at the college and the observation of some students and their wrong beliefs and the way they perceive the things around them are affected by their preconceived expectations, so they receive the information that serves them and which they aim to achieve. Obtaining material and moral benefits, ignoring other views and questioning them, as this is reflected in their behavior and the way they interact with others. It revolves around the language of hostility and conflict and not dialogue. Each of them seeks to prove their ideas and opinions She confirms her preconceived beliefs that she aimed at obtaining personal benefits, and this generates many behavioral and cognitive problems such as issuing wrong orders and presenting illogical arguments and justifications, and after implementing the program, the researcher reached the following results
1- The techniques of logical-emotional imagination and the art of fun are considered good instructional techniques, as they brought about a positive change in reducing the confirmation bias of university students and thus can be relied upon in subsequent experimental studies.
2. The sessions of the counseling program, including the various topics it contained, allowed for a move away from the daily routine that the students face, which increased their motivation and acceptance of change.
3. The reduction in the confirmation bias of the students is an indication that the students employ what they learned in the sessions on life situations.
4- Guidance (cognitive _ rationalistic emotional) has an active role in modifying incompatible, irrational and biased thoughts
