The publication of a teaching book at the University of Basra on the geography of cities
A book was issued for the teaching at the College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Basra, Prof. Dr. Salah Hashim Al-Asadi, a book entitled (Cities' Geography).
The book, which included 456 pages divided into seventeen chapters, shed light on the nature of the geography of cities, the concept of urbanization, classification and functions of cities, in addition to theories of the internal structure of cities and the uses of the city’s land. With the research in the theory of central places, and in order to complete the study of the city, it is necessary to refer to the economic basis of the cities and the values of the land in them and their regional relationship. Here, we must point out that this book is a methodological book that fits with the vocabulary of cities’ geography in the faculties of education and literature. These are the new and smart cities and the rural and suburban urban outskirts. A chapter on random housing and the problems of contemporary cities was also discussed. The book also contained a set of tables, figures and maps that enhance the contents and vocabulary of the book.
