A teacher at the University of Basra participates in a research in a symposium on (Water scarcity and the future of Shatt Al-Arab)
The teacher in the Department of Geography, College of Education for Human Sciences (Prof. Dr. Safaa Abdul-Amir Rasham Al-Asadi) participated in the symposium held by the Presidency of the University of Basra.
The participation included a presentation of the tagged research (environmental deterioration in the Shatt al-Arab, reassessment of the Algiers Agreement as a solution).
The researcher indicated that (international rivers require joint cooperation between the riparian countries to maintain the sustainability of the flow of fresh water, and that the water potential available to Iraq is not sufficient to supply the Shatt al-Arab River with a sufficient volume of environmental flow of 200 m3/second. Therefore, the river region was exposed to the most severe cases of environmental deterioration, whether At the level of water, climate or land cover, and this state of deterioration can be taken advantage of to re-evaluate the Algiers Agreement by adding the principle (sustainability of fresh water flow) as a development and amendment to the agreement, which allows more to enhance joint cooperation between Iraq and Iran to limit the aggravation of the problem)
