The university of basrah has held a seminar about cholesterol.
The department of Clinical laboratory sciences at the College of Pharmacy - university of basrah has discussed the role of cholesterols in a seminar entitled:(Cholesterol and its relationship to cardiovascular disease) presented by Dr. Qutaiba Abdul Karim. The seminar has included an explanation of the importance of cholesterol ,its benefits to the body ,its relationship to atherosclerosis and heart clots as well as the common idea that cholesterol is harmful and may cause strokes.In fact the modern studies have concluded that heart disease and stroke have no direct relationship to the level of cholesterol in the blood and there is no confirmed study to prove it. On the other hand, the recent studies have confirmed that cholesterol is useful for the body and has a significant role in protecting the body against many diseases, including cancer, bacteria and other infections. One of the important recommendations addressed by the lecture is to eat sufficient quantities of foods containing cholesterol for its many functions, including formation of cell membrane ,vitamin D synthesis and some hormones ,digestion and absorption of fat in the intestines.
