A master's thesis at the University of Basrah- College of Medicine was discussed entitled: Analysis of MIF Genotype in Hemophilia Patients and its Relation to the Development of Inhibitors and Parvovirus B19 Infection. The thesis presented by Murtadha Ali Hadi aims to analyze macrophage migration inhibition factor (MIF), an inflammatory cytokine derived from T cells. There are many single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) genotypes in human MIF gene such as C/G SNP173 and its variation increases the possibility of chronic diseases, therefore the relationship between G/C SNP173 with parvovirus B19, hepatitis B and C was investigated. The thesis concluded that the use of PCR technique is essential to detect viruses in the blood of donors to avoid infection of patients with hemophilia. In addition, it is important to measure MIF plasma protein in hemophilia patients especially those with hepatitis C.
