A doctoral thesis entitled “The Vatican’s position on the developments of events in Europe 1939-1945” was discussed in 1/8/2021 in the History Department at the College of Arts.
The thesis presented by the student Haider Falih Hassan Al-Zamili included four chapters. The first chapter discussed the Vatican's position on the developments of events in Europe, August 1939. The second chapter included the Vatican and the development of events in Europe, August 1939 - June. The third chapter dealt with the Vatican's position on the political and military plans of the allies 1940-1943. The fourth chapter involved Vatican and the developments of political and war events 1943-1945.
The thesis aims to reveal the religious dimension through the Vatican and its impact on policies and situations within Europe and the extent to which it has reached within the framework of European conflict interactions and counter reactions, as well as drawing a peaceful solution and formulating a list relationship between the constants and variables.
The thesis discussed the role of the Vatican in the global context linked to its ability to preserve its moral image and impartiality and not to depend on its foreign policy dimensions and pragmatism, such as those that taught the politics of some countries. The role that represent the only and most important asset on which the Vatican’s mediation efforts are based in the midst of complex conflicts. These efforts have not succeeded in curbing the escalation of global conflict linked to international colonial interests and competition.
