The College of Pharmacy at the university of basrah organized a seminar entitled (Some facts about nutrition) presented by Dr. Osama Hamed Ramadan.The seminar included some concepts of nutritional facts ,the most important nutrients needed by the human body and non-food items in foods, including harmful substances such as preservatives and useful as antioxidants. The seminar also highlighted the most important factors affecting nutrition such as genetic factors ,ecosystem and family lifestyle. It illustrated some food genetic disorders or food pattern that leads to activation of some specific genes and affect the work of metabolic enzymes and convert the amino acid phenylenin into tyrosine in genetic disorder and convert phenylanin into a toxic compound (phenylketonuria)which may cause growth retardation in children and delayed brain development.
