A Board research at the University of Basra College of Medicine discussed the relationship between an anti-thyroglobulin and an antithyroid peroxide antibodies in patients with primary hypothyroidism in Basra, southern Iraq. The research presented by the student Nour Sabih Shamkhi aims to study the relationship between anti-thyroglobulin and anti-thyroid peroxide in patients suffering from primary hypothyroidism.
The research concluded that the measurement of both anti-thyroglobulin and anti-thyroid peroxide is of significant value in patients with chronic autoimmune hypothyroidism, and they differ in their prevalence among different populations. The anti-thyroglobulin tends to be more useful in the elderly over the age of fifty years, as it is more prevalent than anti-thyroid peroxide.
