A Board research at the University of Basra College of Medicine discussed the evaluation of Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin as a marker of diabetic nephropathy. The research presented by the student Kifah Hasan Jarrah aims to evaluate the diagnostic value of serum Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin as a vital marker for early detection of nephropathy in type 2 diabetics. The research concluded that S.NGAL can be considered as the first biological marker for the diagnosis of diabetic nephropathy in high-risk patients before the onset of microproteinuria.
It could play a major role as an early, non-invasive tool for diagnosing and even tracking the progression of a kidney injury.
