
University of Basrah, in cooperation with the Basra Gas Company, held a ceremony to honor a number of students in the colleges of engineering and administration and economics, within the framework of the joint scientific cooperation mechanism signed between the two parties at the beginning of this year
Awards were given to (12) students from the disciplines of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, as well as the Department of Banking and Finance at the College of Administration and Economics, where the best (4) first-year students in the above disciplines were given a laptop computer for each of them, and the best (8) students from the second stage, were awarded (2000) dollars for each of them
The President of Basrah University, Dr. Saad Shahin, praised the Basra Gas Company’s initiative and its interest in outstanding students, which is a supportive and encouraging incentive for the rest of the students to make diligence a priority. He also indicated that this initiative was preceded by the signing of a joint cooperation mechanism between Basrah University and Basra Gas Company to train a group of students in its laboratories. As well as exchanging experiences in the scientific and research fields.
On this occasion, Mr. Malcolm Mays, General Manager of Basra Gas Company, said, “I am pleased to launch the Basra Gas Company Award for Outstanding Students, and this is a new constructive step to support outstanding students at Basrah University. The purpose of this initiative is to honor outstanding students and shed light on this elite who represent the future of this country and the real engine for future generations"
"With the joint cooperation between the Basra Gas Company and the University of Basrah, we will be able to draw a future plan to retain high-performance local talent to serve Iraq in the oil and gas sector and other sectors," Malcolm added
It is worth noting that Basrah University has effectively implemented a fair evaluation criterion to determine the top students based on their performance during the academic year, the higher grades they obtained in various fields and other related achievements. (4) students from the first stage and (8) from the second stage were selected. This initiative comes after the selection of (30) students from among the best graduates from the University of Basrah earlier to join the Basra Gas Company as the first direct employment in the company, and they were absorbed in different specializations according to their specializations and studies, and (22) of them became direct employees in the company. The last group of (8) graduates will join their colleagues to work in the company at the end of this year
