A master's thesis was discussed in the College of Science at the University of Basrah entitled (Chronic Toxicity of Ecological Pollutants (Heavy Metals) in Cancer Patients in Basrah Province). The thesis of the researcher (Iman Abdul Haleem Khalaf) included five chapters. The thesis aims to assess the concentrations of some elements such as Aluminium, Mercury, Cadmium, Nickel, Lead, Chromium, Iron, Copper and Zinc, Calcium, Magnesium, in addition to Sodium in blood and hair samples taken from patients with breast cancer, lung cancer and stomach cancer in Basrah province and compared with the control group, in addition to studying the effect of using deodorants on the level of the studied minerals in breast cancer patients. The study concluded that the concentration of both Aluminum and Lead is high significantly in cancer patients in general and the concentration of both Cadmium and Copper is high in the serum of cancer patients, as well as it was found that there were no significant differences between breast cancer patients who used deodorants and patients who did not use deodorants, so it is unlikely that deodorants are the source of Aluminum exposure that what is absorbed from Aluminum after using deodorants is a very small amount estimated at 0.01%. It recommended conducting more studies to evaluate other elements in patients and based on other types of samples such as nails or urine samples.
