
The College of Dentistry organized a scientific lecture for the continuous education titled as ( Alzheimer's Disease)
Assistant. Lecturer. Hanaa Khazaal Jaber, stated that Alzheimer is a neurological disorder that leads to the shrinkage of the brain (atrophy) and the death of its cells.
Hanaa also added that Alzheimer disease, is the most common cause of dementia, as it is a condition that involves a persistent decline in the ability to think, as well as in behavioral and social skills, which negatively affects a person's ability to function independently.
The lecture aims to calculate the rates of this condition, as United States of America has over 5.8 million people diagnosed with Alzheimer's at the age of 65 and over, of whom 80% are aged 75 and over, and about 50 million people suffering from dementia worldwide, it is estimated that the proportion of those with Alzheimer’s disease ranges from Between 60% to 70%.
The lecture included the most important causes and risk factors for the disease, methods of diagnosis and treatment, as well as methods of prevention.
