The research team at the College of Science at the University of Basra, consisting of Prof. Dr. Karim Hilal Thamer, Prof. Dr. Sahar Abdul-Abbas Malik, researcher Shaima Ibrahim and Dr. Mushtaq Talib Abdul-Mahdi, Veterinary Hospital, obtained a patent to enable them to use the alcoholic extract of the bark of Juglans regia L by oral administration of female albino mice. Pregnant women have been shown to have abortions and a low birth rate in experimental animals.
It was also shown through the biochemical study of animal serum that there were changes in the levels of estrogen and progesterone hormones in the blood of female mice, represented by a significant increase in estrogen. The histological study of uterine and ovarian sections of females treated with the extract showed several changes, including signs of bleeding and blood congestion in the tissue, in addition to failure in organ function, as well as an inflammatory response.
