A diploma thesis at the University of Basrah - College of Medicine discussed high-risk pregnancies in the third trimester and their impact on the mother and newborn in the Basrah Gynecology Hospital. The thesis presented by Hadeel Mohammed Habash: aims to find the frequency of risk factors of high-risk pregnancy and study the results on mothers and newborns. The thesis concluded that inadequate antenatal care was the most common risk factor, followed by previous caesarean operation scar, high blood pressure, and extreme age. Despite the presence of risk factors, there were good maternal and neonatal outcomes. The thesis recommended that attendance at antenatal care should be encouraged and should be motivated by the media and health care providers in order to discover risk factors as early as possible during pregnancy and to provide recommended care for those cases. All patients with risk factors should deliver in a well-equipped hospital that deals with maternal and neonatal complications. A risk assessment system should be applied to all patients admitted to the labor room, where the risk score value reflects the likelihood of complications. The study of a larger sample size that includes more than one center in Basrah is needed to reflect more accurate results.
