The University of Basrah inaugurated the Women's Empowerment Unit in Bab Al-Zubair Colleges Complex in the presence of official civil, military and academic figures
The legal advisor and head of the Women's Empowerment Unit at the university, Sana Abdul Latif Al-Asadi, said that the opening of our unit came as an embodiment of Security Council resolution (1325) supporting security and community peace, which we aspire to be achieved by the leading Iraqi woman who has proven her presence in every detail of life
Regarding the tasks of the Women Empowerment Unit, Al-Asadi stressed the need to include Iraqi women in general and Basri women in particular in international peace-making processes and make them active participants in the formulation of national policies and legislation. Also, we demand that there be a diplomatic representation for women and support them economically by adopting their projects that serve their families and society and to protect them from sexual violence and societal terrorism
