The College of Dentistry University of Basrah and the Continuous Education Unit with the cooperation of the Basic Sciences Department, held a scientific lecture under the title "Silica Nanoparticles for Delivery of Therapeutics and Imaging Agents."
The lecture that was delivered by Lecturer. Dr. Hanaa Ali Hussein, included the definition of silica, its properties and various methods of preparation, focusing on preparing it from natural materials to be safer when applied to humans, and the transformations that occur on the surface of nanoparticles and their role in improving drug delivery.
The lecturer explained that the medical applications and examples are numerous for the use of these molecules in the delivery of medical drugs and genes to the places specified for them.
The lecture aims to show the importance of the silica nanoparticles in delivering the medical drugs to specific areas and increasing the effectiveness of the medical drugs that are used to treat cancer by inhibiting the effectiveness of proteins against the cellular death.
Finally, the researchers in this lecture called for the importance of applying these Nano composites to animal prototypes to show more advanced results. Also, the necessity of studying the effect of changing the size and shape of the particles on the medical applications, as well as preparing nanoparticles from safer sources, such as using natural materials to prepare the nanoparticles of silica.
