A master’s thesis at the College of Engineering at the University of Basrah discussed (Designing and building smart wireless measuring devices within a local electric power generator system). The thesis presented by the student Doaa Suhail Abboud dealt with the proposal of a smart meter system, which consists of three parts. Part One, the design of a smart energy meter based on GSM as a communication tool, an Arduino was designed and implemented as a microcontroller with appropriate accessories. This meter sends the energy consumption to the power distribution center, the second part is a main meter used to detect theft where the existing smart meters are connected within the network with this main meter for monitoring energy consumption, the third section is the server located in the power distribution center to receive data from smart meters.
And the main counter to calculate the bill and detect theft. Where this center can cut power electricity for any consumer who refrains from paying his bill or tampering with the electrical network.
The message aims to solve many of the problems facing electrical distribution systems by replacing the traditional meter with a smart meter that keeps pace with the progress of the world.
