The study dealt with evaluating the information of the medical staff and patients about the correct use of oral, topical and inhaled corticosteroids, where the medical staff answered the questions about the three drug forms of cortisone in a form prepared by Google (Google form). As for the patients, they answered the questionnaire through a form distributed to pharmacies All over Basrah, the study included the following medical personnel: doctors, pharmacists, pharmacists' assistants and nurses.
The study concluded that the medical staff’s information about the use of cortisone in its three drug forms (oral, topical, and inhaled) was insufficient, and this would have a negative impact on the patient education process and commitment to treatment for the required period. As for patients, the study found that relatives had the largest percentage of prescribing corticosteroids, and that most patients who use cortisone do not know anything about its side effects.
The study also concluded that there is a large percentage of those who use cortisone in an unauthorized manner, such as weight gain and skin whitening.
