
The instructors at the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah, Dr. Suha Haitham and Dr. Azza Sajid, published a research entitled (Impact of parasitic infection with Ascaris lumbricoides on pulmonary function tests in asthmatic and non-asthmatic children) in the journal (Respiratory Medicine Case Reports) in the Netherlands with an impact factor of 1.5 and within Clarivate and Scopus containers.
The research included a study of the relationship between infection with the parasite Ascaris and bronchial asthma in children between (12-16) years.
The study aimed to find out the effect of parasite infection - specifically Ascaris parasite - on the occurrence of immune infections in particular on the respiratory system, bronchial asthma, due to the pathogenic effect of the parasite when it passes through the lung in the larval stage.
The study concluded that some of the contact indicators and lung function examining indicators, that this study is the first of its kind that deals with the direct relationship between infection with a parasite and the occurrence of asthma in children.
