The University of Basrah held a technical consultative meeting to complete the joint study with the Italian consultant for TECHNITAL S.p.A regarding the selection of the dam location on Shatt al-Arab stream and its environmental impact.
This joint study aims to select the optimal location for the regulatory dam and assess its environmental impact.
The meeting included discussing the dam's virtual location, preparing designs, and reviewing data to complete the study according to the latest technologies.
Dr. Muhammad Nasser Fares also indicated that Basrah Governorate has long been suffering from high rates of salinity, the penetration of the salt wedge into the waters of Shatt al-Arab, and the decrease of vegetation cover in light of the increasing proportion of carbon dioxide emissions in it, which requires serious and rapid work in finding effective solutions to develope the environmental and water reality, and from this point of view, the university works to provide all its capabilities and expertise to all parties that work to solve those problems that our governorate suffers from, out of a sense of joint responsibility towards these issues in the interest of the public.
