On Thursday morning, 2/12/2021, at the Department of History at the College of Arts / University of Basrah, a Ph.D. thesis entitled Imam Ali bin Abi Talib (peace be upon him) in the works of Al-Jahiz.
The thesis presented by the student Aqeel Youssef Al-Sultan included an introduction, a preface, four chapters, and a conclusion.
The thesis aims to explain Al-Jahiz’s position on Imam Ali (peace be upon him), and it was found after the research that it is based on three determinants, namely the creedal motive, the reasons for approaching authority, and the necessities of debate. It was also found that the majority of his positions on Imam Ali (peace be upon him) are strict and negative and that Al-Jahiz represents an advanced case of the Muslim intellectual who puts his pen in the service of the sultan, but Al-Jahiz’s allegations against Imam Ali (peace be upon him) do not stand up to debate because they are weak.
