A master thesis entitled “Informing in Arabic Grammar” was discussed in the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Arts / University of Basrah on Sunday 5/12/2021.
The thesis presented by the student, Yasmin Dhafer Abd Ali, included three chapters. The first chapter discussed informing and composition, the second chapter included informing, usage, and rule, and the third chapter discusses informing and communication.
The thesis aims to demonstrate the efforts of Arab grammarians in their interest in the informative aspect of the speech process by describing the linguistic tools and structures in speech and analyzing them through their references and observations that indicate their interest in the informative purpose and its value in the linguistic communication between the speaker and the listener.
The thesis concluded that the grammarians have a communicative principle related to giving the listener or addressee information that he/she was ignorant of before the speech. If that is not achieved, then the informing is not verified. Grammarians have linked the speaker’s intent and grammatical choice in order to obtain the benefit and the success of the informing process.
