The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah organized a scientific workshop on epigenetic inheritance as the new old science.
The workshop aims to demonstrate the impact of epigenetic marks on the process of gene expression, as well as their role in determining biological age and age-related diseases.
The workshop presented by Dr. Salah Mahdi Al-Sudani included an explanation of the epigenetic marks represented by DNA methylation, histone modification and short RNA molecules and their role in changing genetic traits, diseases and aging, in addition to addressing the role of CRISPR technology in the process of regulating these epigenetic marks, in addition to the role of DNA methylation in the epigenetic clock.
The workshop recommended the necessity of addressing epigenetics in animal production research because of its role in inheriting traits and diseases by disrupting or stimulating the process of gene expression.
