The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah organized a panel discussion on the genetic improvement of the mangrove plant.
The panel discussion, presented by Dr. Halima Jabbar Abdul-Ridha, aims to genetically improve the mangrove plant by using the plant tissue culture technique to cultivate and propagate it on the coasts of Basrah.
The panel discussion included a presentation on the importance of plants to the environment and humans, as it constitutes an integrated environment and has great importance in terms of entertainment and stabilization of coasts from erosion due to tidal movements.
The panel discussion showed the possibility of cultivating this plant under the environmental conditions of the city of Basrah, preserving its coasts, and purifying the environment from industrial pollutants resulting from oil residues.
