The Department of Chemistry at the University of Basrah held a master thesis defese entitled "preparation and characterization of some complexes of copper, cobalt, nickel and zinc binary for thiourea derivatives and the study of the cyclic voltage survey and some of its biological applications" The M.Sc. Student (Asmaa Hashim Mohammed) clarified that in her thesis, new ligands for thiourea derivatives and their complexes with transition metals (Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II)) were prepared. The prepared ligands and complexes were diagnosed based on CHN microelement analysis and spectroscopic techniques (H1-NMR, C13-NMR, FT-IR, UV-Vis spectroscopy mass spectroscopy), molar conductivity measurement, cyclic voltammetry and magnetic sensitivity. Through these analyzes, it was proved that the complexes possess non-ionic properties and act as weak electrolytes, and this confirms that the geometric shape of the complexes with the ratio (M:L) (1:1) is tetrahedral, and in the ratio (M:1) (1:1) is octahedral.
The effectiveness of the prepared compounds was studied as antioxidants, and it showed a high efficacy in scavenging free radicals. These compounds also showed anti-fungal activity (Candida albicans, Aspergillus Niger and gave good efficacy in inhibiting the growth of these fungi at very low concentrations. The thesis also included a study of the effectiveness of the prepared ligands and their complexes with zinc as anti-thyroid hormones, and showed a significant ability to reduce thyroid hormones T3, T4
