The master’s thesis of the student Saad Qasim Dhuaif in the College of Sciences, University of Basrah discussed (Toll-like receptor 3-4 gene expression and blood biomarkers associated with SARS-Covid-19 patients in Basrah, southern Iraq), and the researcher’s thesis showed (that not all patients have the same pattern in the variables). Therefore, the idea of dividing patients according to their similarities and differences in these biomarkers and including them into multiple patterns was proposed in order for these patterns to help clinicians diagnose and differentiate patients with regard to giving appropriate treatment.
The thesis aims to provide information and data about immune changes and blood components in SARS-Covid-19 infection in Iraqi population and compare them with global variables associated with patients infected with SARS-Covid-2.
The study concluded:
There is a quantitative and qualitative decrease in lymphocytes, which indicates a failure of the acquired immune response against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
COVID-19 patients showed different patterns depending on the values of clinically approved non-specific biomarkers for diagnosis and monitoring, and death rates varied accordingly.
The specificity, sensitivity, and accuracy of specific antigen tests were 100% in patient swabs when negative and positive PCR results were adopted as control samples.
The study recommended that the confounding acquired response associated with SARS-Covid-2 infection should be studied on a larger scale, with further investigation into the factors that lead to the variance in response to most viruses.
Changes in the level of biochemical and serological factors in the serum and body fluids of patients should be considered as a basis for choosing the type of .treatment
