The department of biology at the collage of science, university of Basra organized a panel discussion entitled (The effect of urinary tract infection in cancer patients) by the master student Aseel Ali Naeema
Its purpose was to clarify the role of bacteria that cause urinary tract infection, the most common in cancer patients, and their virulence.
Cancer is a disease characterized by the development of abnormal cells that divide uncontrollably and have the ability to spread throughout the body.
Cancer reduces the immunity of the affected person thus the sick person is exposed to many types of infections, and one of the most important types of infections that a cancer patient can be exposed to is urinary tract infection.
The most important symptoms of urinary tract infection pain in the side, abdomen or pelvic area, pressure in the lower pelvis, frequent need to urinate, painful urination and blood in the urine, the need to urinate at night, abnormal urine color and strong or foul-smelling urine.
The study dealt with the role of antibiotics in fighting the causative bacteria in addition to the most important factors of virulence possessed by the causative bacteria, the most important of which is their possession: capsular lipopolysaccharide, flagellum, fimbriae, outer membrane protein, hemolysin and siderophores.
These virulence factors enabled the bacteria to colonize the urinary system, even though the body’s defense mechanism was effective.

E.coli,Klebsiella pneumonia,Proteus ,Pseudomonas auroginosa,Acintobacter and Enterobacter
