Within its program (community service), the Department of Psychological Guidance and Educational Guidance at the College of Education for Human Sciences - University of Basra, in cooperation with the Directorate of Education in Basra Governorate, held a training course under the title: (Teacher Counseling, Roles and Duties) and the session was moderated by (Professor Dr. Maedeh Mardan Mohi) Head of the Department of Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance.
It is worth noting that the target groups for this course are principals and teachers of secondary schools in Basra Governorate. The course aimed at several points, the most important of which are:
1- Determining the requirements for the guiding role of the teacher in secondary schools to carry out his educational responsibilities within the school.
2- To develop teachers' guidance skills in dealing with students' problems.
3- Creating an integrated educational philosophy to enhance the guiding role of teachers and improve their active educational role in the field of educating and guiding students.
In addition, the course included four training lectures in the field of specialization delivered over two days.
Some of the department's professors participated in this course, as they gave their lectures in this course, and they are:
1-a. Dr. Hamed Qassem Rishan. His lecture was about (The Role of the Counselor and the Teacher in Reducing Exam Anxiety)
2- Prof. Dr. Kazem Da'doush's memories, her lecture was on (the role of the guiding teacher, his tasks and the importance of the guiding teacher).
3- To shed light on (the role of the mentor teacher in building the student’s personality) and (the competencies of the mentor teacher in good classroom management).
At the end of the session, the participants presented their suggestions about the upcoming sessions, as well as their evaluation of the session in terms of management, preparation and organization, and the topics mentioned in it.
