The University of Basrah, represented by the Marine Science Center and the university presidency, participated in the meeting of the Central Water Management Committee of Basrah Governorate, which included all departments concerned with the water situation in the governorate.
The meeting included a study and discussion of the emergency plan that was prepared previously, the mechanisms for its activation, the preparation of possible scenarios and how to deal with them during the coming period, which aims to reduce the amount of damage that may result from crises in the water file, such as penetration of the salt wedge or floods resulting from torrents.
Dr. Muhammad Nasser Fares stated that the University of Basrah has provided and continues to provide all support and backing to the authorities concerned with the water file and work to advance this reality by designing a forecast program, early warning programs and the central database of the committee and providing studies and scientific advice to them in service of our dear governorate.
