A research team at the College of Veterinary Medicine and the College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah, consisting of the instructor Umit Faisal Muhammad Hussein and Dr. Atheer Hussein Ali, obtained a patent for discovering a treatment used for skin ulcers caused by pseudomonas aeroginosa bacteria in common and gold carp fish.
The patent included the manufacture of chitosan gel, which is considered one of the substances that inhibit microbial growth because it contains amino groups with positive charges that bind with negative charges on the surface of the bacterial cell, which leads to a change in its properties. It is also considered a natural substance that undergoes some chemical reactions that give it certain medical advantages. Chitosan is soluble in dilute acid solutions, as the higher its solubility, the higher its inhibitory capacity.
