The Palm Research Center at the University of Basrah organized a panel discussion on climate change and its effects on the water situation in Iraq.
The panel discussion, in which Dr. Abdul Rahman Daoud Al-Hamad lectured, aims to study the causes and consequences of climate change and global warming and their impact on the water situation in Iraq and the proposed solutions to reduce them.
The panel discussion dealt with determining the causes of global warming and the resulting climatic changes that contributed to changing the rain lines that caused water crises.
The panel discussion recommended the need to immediately begin removing all abuses of water quotas by upstream countries, preparing a plan for distributing water revenues to the governorates according to population ratios and the activity in them, preventing the establishment of fish farming lakes, using modern irrigation and recycling techniques, and concluding binding long-term agreements with riparian countries with Iraq, and ensuring the continuity of water flow, especially with Turkey.
