The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a scientific symposium on mineral resources and the refractory industry.
The symposium, presented by Dr. Sattar Jabbar Al-Khafaji, aims to introduce mineral resources, their types, the nature of their formation, their locations and their classifications.
The symposium included an explanation of the types of minerals, both metallic and non-metallic, and their economic importance as the second important source after oil in the country, emphasizing how to identify them geologically and invest them in the right way to benefit from them as the backbone of many industries in Iraq such as building materials, paints, ceramics, refractories, glass, plastics, electronics, detergents, and even medicines.
The symposium recommended the necessity of presenting workshops and introductory lectures on the most important mineral ores in southern Iraq and their economic uses. It also recommended introducing the private investment sector to the natural mineral resources in southern Iraq and ways to use them optimally.
