On Wednesday morning, 16/2/2022, a master thesis, entitled (Social and Economic Life in the Soviet Union in the Years of World War II 1939-1945), was discussed at the Department of History at the College of Arts / University of Basrah.
The thesis submitted by the student Farah Nasih Rajab included that the Second World War (1939-1945) had led to social and economic results as well as its strategic and political results, and the Soviet Union bore the brunt of that war, as the country witnessed major social and economic changes.
The preface dealt with the political, economic and social conditions that the Soviet Union lived through before World War II, as the country witnessed developments at all levels after that revolution, as the Bolsheviks wanted to implement their Marxist-Leninist theory and establish a communist society. The thesis studied Soviet women in World War II, highlighting one of the most important social aspects of women and their role in contemporary wars. The problem of food scarcity in Soviet cities during the war and within the Soviet armed forces was also studied.
The thesis studied the social and economic effects of the war on the Soviet Union by tracing the Soviet means to promote important industries, especially war industries. As well as the phenomena of displacement and evacuation in the Soviet Union as a result of the German forces occupying the western parts of the country.
