The College of Arts at the University of Basrah organized a scientific symposium on hybrid criticism, which included a lecture by Dr. Khaled Ali Yass, Professor of Narratives and Sociology of Literature and Culture at the College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Diyala, entitled: "Hybrid Criticism - the Socio-Textual Approach as a Theory of the Death of the Purity of Contemporary Criticism"
The lecture expressed the sociological methods of criticism related to the novel by dividing it into pure and hybrid methods. The pure was associated with contextual and structural criticism, and it maintained a specific reference, as it is in context: psychological, social or historical, and in linguistic structuralism. As for the hybrid, it is related to post-structuralist approaches, they combine more than one field of knowledge in application.
