On Wednesday morning, 2/3/2022, a PhD thesis, entitled (South Korea's Economic Experience 1962-1992, a Historical Study), was discussed at the Department of History at the College of Arts / University of Basrah.
The thesis presented by the student Abdullah Kareem Kazem included four chapters. The first chapter discussed the historical background of the course of the economic experience of South Korea until 1961, the second chapter included the economic experience of South Korea in the stage of establishment and launch (1962-1972), the third chapter discussed the economic experience of South Korea in the stage of upgrading and consolidation (1973-1979), the fourth chapter focused on South Korea's economic experience in the phase of transition and integration (1980-1992), while the fifth chapter dealt with South Korea's economic experience in the agricultural field (1962-1992).
The thesis aims to review the economic experience of South Korea by tracing the paths it adopted and the factors and reasons that led to its success to benefit from it in achieving economic development in developing countries, including Iraq.
The thesis concluded that the economic experience of South Korea, with its results and intellectual visions, deserves contemplation, study and research, especially as it is characterized by many lessons that can be taken by countries looking to advance and keep pace with development. The most important finding is that investing in and developing human resources is the basis for the success and sustainability of every development experience.
The thesis recommended that benefiting from the economic experience of South Korea is possible, but provided that this experience is molded with our reality and according to our capabilities and needs, because reproducing this experience without any change or addition means that failure and setback will be the fate of the new experience.
