A research team at the College of Veterinary Medicine, consists of Dr. Wasfi Aboud Al-Masoudi, Dr. Zainab Waheed Khudair and Dr. Zainab Bakr Abdul Karim, obtained a patent on the effect of some pyrimidine derivatives in the treatment of wounds created in laboratory rabbits.
The patent included the preparation of a number of pyrimidine derivatives and testing their effectiveness in treating wounds healing created in laboratory rabbits. The results proved that one of the derivatives has low toxicity and great effectiveness in treating wounds. The results of the histological study showed a renewal in the basal layer and the disappearance of inflammatory cells when using the prepared substance as an ointment with a concentration of 2%. Which makes the prepared compound a promising possibility to become an effective drug for treating wounds after completing pharmacological studies.
