The College of Fine Arts at the University of Basrah held a lecture on Arabic lettering in contemporary Arab visual art.
The lecture presented by Dr. Mohsen Ali Hussein included a presentation of the uses of the Arabic letter in contemporary Arab visual art, which is one of the topics that the Arab visual artist is interested in, as it embodies an important aspect of the Arab visual identity.
The lecture, which was held within the activities of the second annual festival of Arabic calligraphy, discussed the reality of this embodiment and the paradoxes of the traditional calligraphic painting on the figurative work, highlighting the outputs of this employment, both aesthetically and objectively, for the letter alone or in combination as well. It is different from what is traditional as well. The lecture also presented the different ways of displaying visual works with crafts and their contrast from what is traditional. The lecture was attended by a number of calligraphers and a group of students of the College of Fine Arts.
