The Continuing Education Unit at the College of Education for Sciences organized a workshop on “Submitting a Research Proposal” with the attendance of fourth-stage students in the English Language Department for the morning and evening studies in the College of Education for Human Sciences. The workshop included a lecture given by the teacher, Alaa Hussein Sharhan, in which he dealt with the components of the research proposal and arranging those components in an acceptable way, such as reviewing the title and topic in a clear and specific form, addressing the context of that topic, stating the objectives of writing the research and synthesizing the hypothesis for these objectives, then reviewing the method of analyzing samples, models or texts chosen within Chapter on analysis.
The workshop discussed the basic objectives of writing the research proposal, the number of its pages, when to present it to the supervisor and why. The proposal helps the researcher clarify the way in which the researcher thinks: Will the proposed research be likely to be accomplished and successful, and is it achieved within the time period specified for writing it? The researcher provides a brief information background on his topic and then mentions the objectives of that study, the hypothesis resulting from these objectives, the method of data analysis, the test or the chosen text, and other important matters to be mentioned.
The workshop indicated that it is very necessary for the researcher to initially write a research proposal before entering its chapters. Through it, the researcher can make his ideas clear, his research objectives defined, his method of analysis correct, and his samples logical.
