The Department of Political and Strategic Studies at the Basra and Arabian Gulf Studies Center at the University of Basrah organized an educational symposium on national tolerance and its importance in the Iraqi community peace.
The symposium aims to educate the academic community about the importance of tolerance and renounce forms of racism, sectarianism and ethnicity in Iraqi society, coinciding with the first anniversary of the visit of Pope Francis Jorge Mario to Iraq in March 2021.
The symposium included educational and awareness lectures for the Director of Information of the Police Command, Brigadier General Basem Ghanem Al-Maliki, Dr. Muhammad Mahmoud Al-Badr, and the representative of the Shiite Endowment Directorate in Basra, Mr. Maher Dawas Abdullah, which focused on the importance of national cohesion between the components of one society as the real path to overcoming differences and crises and achieving the national interest.
The organizers of the symposium recommended the consolidation of the language of dialogue between the leaders and authorities of society to resolve differences, and the establishment of scientific and cultural activities that inculcate in the hearts of individuals the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence and emphasizing them in the study curricula.
