The Department of Geographical Studies at the Basra and Arabian Gulf Studies Center - University of Basrah, organized a scientific symposium entitled (Palm cultivation projects in the desert of Basra Governorate and their role in achieving sustainable development).
The symposium included a discussion of scientific plans and studies prepared to preserve the quality and production of date palms in the governorate by reclaiming and investing the vast desert lands as an alternative to the original agricultural lands that were razed as a result of population encroachment.
The symposium recommended facilitating administrative and financial procedures for investors and taking into account the environmental aspects for sustainable development that preserves natural resources for future generations.
