
Coinciding with the birth anniversary of Imam Hassan Al-Mujtaba (peace be upon him) and the beginning of the blessed month of Ramadan, the University of Basrah inaugurated a new scientific edifice represented by the Persian Language Studies and Teaching Center located in the General Secretariat of the Central Library in the Bab Al-Zubair Colleges Complex in the presence of the Iranian Consul General, Mr. Ali Abdi.
On the purpose of the opening, the President of the University, Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, said, “In these blessed days of the holy month of Ramadan and the birth of the grandson of the Prophet (peace be upon him), and in implementation of the scientific agreements and memoranda of understanding concluded between the University of Basrah and many Iranian universities and ratified by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the instructions issued by the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, we open today the scientific edifice represented by this center in order to support the central library at the university with the cultural and scientific pillars to be a station to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and culture between Iraqi students and those who wish to complete their studies in Iranian universities. After the blessed month of Ramadan, Basrah University will witness the inauguration of another edifice, in return, represented by the Studies and Teaching Arabic Language Center at Ferdowsi University in Mashhad, in order to complete the knowledge exchange of experiences and competencies and provide everything that researchers and students need in their fields of specialization from both parties”.
Shaheen added - As you know, we have more than ten thousand Iraqi students who continue to study in Iranian universities and they are increaseing. Therefore, there was a need to establish this center to facilitate their prior knowledge of the Persian language, culture and specialized study materials, and to provide information on how to issue documents and academic certificates and many other scientific matters.
