On Thursday morning, 28 March 2022, at the Department of English at the College of Arts / University of Basrah, a PhD's thesis entitled (Verbal humour based on mental scheming in some plays of the comedy of behaviour: a deliberative study) was discussed.
The thesis by the student Samer Abdel Karim Nasser included five chapters. The first chapter discussed the introductions. The second chapter included a narration of verses and scientific and literary theories. The third chapter discussed the explanation of pragmatics with theory and methodology. The fourth chapter dealt with the analysis of three plays from the comedy of behaviour. The fifth chapter included inferences and suggestions.
The thesis aims to get to know the mechanisms of humour in comedy plays of mental schematics according to the Armida model (2008).
The thesis inferences are that the Armida model 2008 can be applied to the comedy of behaviour, but it was expanded by adding a lexical analysis, which shows how the minor mental calligraphers support the work of the great schemes in the humorous text while clarifying the
importance of rhetorical tools in supporting this great scheme that the playwright wants to communicate to his audience.
