During a meeting with his Saudi counterpart, Dr. Hamad bin Muhammad Al-Sheikh, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Nabeel Kadim Abdul Sahib reviewed developing academic cooperation between the educational institutions of the two countries.
Dr. Abdul Sahib highlighted developing coordination fields in common aspects, enhancing prospects for cooperation to achieve sustainable development requirements, and strengthening and synergizing scientific and practical partnerships to find solutions and address challenges, especially with regard to the effects of the pandemic, climate change indicators and food and economic security requirements in light of the contexts of cooperation according to the fields of Education, Youth and Sports Committee under the Iraqi-Saudi Coordination Council and the terms of the scientific and educational memorandum of understanding between the two countries, which includes top scholarship programs between the two countries and an agreement to increase them, similar to the visiting researcher program between Iraqi universities and their Saudi counterparts.
His Excellency said that the two sides also reviewed aspect file of training in the field of international assessment, academic accreditation and quality standards, as well as research studies for postgraduate students at the Master's and Ph.D. levels and emphasizing the importance of twinning between universities.
Dr. Abdul Sahib added that the two sides demonstrated the experiences of Iraq and Saudi Arabia during the pandemic period and the transition to online and blended education, as well as the experience of the satellite broadcasting school, which contributed to the continuation of the wheel of education in the Kingdom.
His Excellency concluded with the Ministers of Higher Education of the participating countries, including Egypt, Sultanate of Oman, Yemen, UAE and Tunisia, as well as dialogues with international experts in the field of academic education.
Dr. Abdul Sahib continued by saying that the delegation visited a number of Saudi universities' pavilions in the exhibition, as well as reviewing with their administrations ways of enhancing cooperation in the scientific and research fields between Iraqi and Saudi universities.
