At the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems at the College of the Arts / University of Basrah, the master's thesis entitled( The impact of urban transport on the Urbanization of the city of Qurna) was discussed
The thesis presented by the student Amjad Yasser Abdel Reda included five chapters. The first chapter discussed the morphology of the city of Qurna, the second chapter included the geographical factors affecting the construction of the urban transport network in the city of Qurna, the third chapter discussed the uses of the land for transportation purposes in the city of Qurna, the fourth chapter dealt with the analysis of the role of urban transport in the generation of trips, functional and urban construction, and the spatial analysis of the movement of transport in the city of Qurna, and the fifth chapter focused on the spatial analysis of the reality of the transport movement in the city of Qurna.
The thesis aims to identify the analysis of the impact of urban transport on the urbanization of the city of Qurna through the analysis of street networks and internal transport elements and the role of geographical factors affecting the construction and distribution of street networks and the most important characteristics of the urban transport network in the city, its types, patterns, transport requirements and its geographical distribution.
The the thesis concluded :
-The geographical location of the city of Qurna, represented by the confluence of the three governorates of Basra, Maysan, and Dhi Qar, made it located in the middle of a triangle formed by the centers of these governorates. It constitutes the regional perimeter of the city, and as a result of the geographical proximity, the mutual influence between the governorates had a great impact on the social aspects.
-The study showed the city's lack of a modern study of traffic, especially since the current intersections do not absorb enough vehicular traffic, especially during the morning and evening rush hours.
- A clear neglect of street furniture, in addition to the suffering of a number of streets from holes, bumps and subsidences
