
The Ambassador of the Republic of France, Eric Chevalier, and his accompanying delegation visited the University of Basrah, and met with the President of the University, Dr. Saad Shaheen Hammadi, his advisors, and a number of deans and directors of departments.
The President of the University expressed his welcome to the visiting guest and the accompanying delegation, explaining to them the great scientific position of Basrah University as the second largest university in Iraq and its attainment of first ranks in international and local classifications.
Shaheen stressed the need for scientific and research cooperation, the exchange of experiences between the University of Basrah and French universities, and the establishment of the French corner in the central library. He also asked the Ambassador to provide assistance in the water file and the restoration of the marshes, and the necessity of drawing upon global expertise to face these great challenges.
For his part, the French ambassador expressed his happiness for the university president and the attendees for the good reception and the opportunity for him to meet these great academic energies, as well as the presence of researchers from the University of Basrah who completed their postgraduate studies in French universities.
Chevalier expressed his country's readiness for scientific and cultural cooperation and consolidation of relations between France and the University of Basrah. He also stressed the existence of prior support for the subject of the marshes because of its importance and the intention to develop it, and invited the president of the university to meet with the presidents of French universities.
