The College of Dentistry University of Basrah organized a scientific lecture on the teeth's general health delivered by one of the academic teachers in the Royal University of London Professor. Salman Alrawaf.
Before the scientific lecture was delivered, the Dean of the College of Dentistry, Assistant. Professor Dr. Fateh Al-Khakani, welcomed his guest and talked briefly on the college's history and it's community services by describing how good the prices are for the patients indicating that approximately 2500 people are benefiting from these services in this year.
The lecture included the introduction of ways to protect the mouth by promoting a balanced diet low in sugar and rich in fruits and vegetables, preferring water as the main drink, stopping the use of all types of tobacco, reducing the use of alcohol, and encouraging the use of protective equipment when exercising and cycling to reduce the risk of facial injuries. Adequate fluoride usage is a key factor in the prevention of tooth decay.
The lecture aims to display the key facts stated by the United Nations that include statistics regarding the effects of oral diseases on approximately 3.5 billion people.
Additionally, teeth decay also called (dental caries) left without treatment, is the most common conditions according to the (GBD2019) statistics.
In addition to the treatment of the dental diseases being so expensive, and not within the WHO system of coverage.
