The College of Dentistry at the University of Basrah organized a scientific lecture on dental public health delivered by one of the professors of the Royal University of London, Professor Dr. Salman Al-Rawaf.
The lecture included introducing ways to preserve the mouth by promoting a balanced diet low in sugars, preferring water as the main drink, stopping the use of all types of tobacco and alcohol, and encouraging the use of protective equipment when exercising to reduce the risk of facial injuries. Also, adequate exposure to fluoride is a key factor in the prevention of the teeth.
The lecture aims to present the main facts declared by the United Nations, which included a statistic about the impact of oral diseases on approximately 3.5 billion people.
Teeth erosion (or so-called tooth decay) left untreated is one of the most common cases according to (GBD2019) statistics.
