The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled (Chemical and molecular study of essential oils in some types of medicinal plants of the Asteraceae family and their role as antioxidants). by the graduate student Shams Mohammed Abd-Alrasoul. The study aims isolating and diagnosing the chemical compounds of the essential oils extracted by using GC-MS technique. Antioxidant activity of total essential oils contents of all species was determined using free radical scavenging activity 2,2-Diphenyl-1-Picrylhydrazyle (DPPH) by adding different concentrations of essential oils to DPPH, as well as a molecular study was also conducted to prove the genetic affinity between the plants and included the distributed of the species, spread the chemical compound with percentage and the study was recommended (using the concentration of 20 μl / ml, which showed strong radical scavenging activity compared with the low concentrations of the studied species, it was also found that the antioxidant value IC50 recorded the best in Artemisia herba-alba, it was 6.8, followed by M. aurea (8.6). It was also observed that there are relationships between the chemical compounds found in the studied plants and their genetic origins, which proved their role as an antioxidant.
