In light of the increasing impact that violence has on human societies as a result of violations of laws and threatening social relations, which commonly translates into crimes that seriously harm lives and property and are often accompanied by aggressive behavior, this study sought to monitor and analyze the effect of genetic polymorphism in the genes COMT and MAOA on the rise of aggressive behavior. The study was based on the commission of murder as an expression of this behavior. The impact of variation in these two genes on fifty convicts in Basra Central Prison who were convicted of murder was studied. Knowing that these two genes are essential in controlling the action of neurotransmitters, the study proved the effect of polymorphisms in these two genes on the development of aggressive behavior.
The study recommended the need to expand the research on more samples in terms of number and on other genes that have a role in regulating the work of neurotransmitters. The study also recommended to research the role of these genes and their impact on education in the early stages of human life.
