The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a panel discussion titled (Relationship between COMT and MAOA genes polymorphisms and aggressive behavior) by the postgraduate student Dheyaa Noori Salman.
This study sought to monitor and analyze the effect of polymorphisms in the COMT and MAOA genes on the emergence of aggressive behavior, and the study took the commission of murder as a manifestation of this behavior. The effect of polymorphism of these two genes on fifty inmates convicted of murder in Basra Central Prison was studied. The study proved the effect of polymorphisms in these two genes on the emergence of aggressive behavior, knowing that these two genes are important in regulating the activity of neurotransmitters between neurons.
The study recommended the need to expand the research on more samples in terms of number and on other genes that have a role in regulating the work of neurotransmitters. The study also recommended to research the role of these genes and their impact on education in the early stages of human life.
